Relay For Life Plymouth 2020 is going LIVE!
On 25th July, at 11am we will be going live on our Facebook Page, for our Relay At Home 12 hour LIVE broadcast. We can’t be together for our Relays this year, but we can be together, apart!
This is like Relay TV, we will have a series of programmes for you to sit back and enjoy, on your phone, tablet, computer or through your TV. It will bring the magic of Relay For Life to the comfort of your own homes.
Tune in from 11am on our facebook page: facebook.com/plymouthrelay

Opening Ceremony
Relay 24 challenge
Relay For Life is a 24 hour event, going through the night signifies that cancer doesn’t sleep, so neither does our fight. As we can’t be together Relaying this year for the 24 hours, we have chosen to accept the Relay 24 Challenge for our teams.
In essence, we would like you to choose something related to the 24 hours which you can complete either on the day, or anytime leading up to it. This can be anything you like, though we’d love it if it was Relay related or raised awareness of the work of Cancer Research UK, or preventing cancer.
So, would you like some ideas? Here goes:
- Eat 5 pieces of fruit/veg per day for 24 consecutive days
- Walk/Run 24 laps – this could be of your garden, your street, your neighbour, Burrator Reservoir – remember this is a challenge, and the more difficult, the more you can raise!
- 24 hour sponsored silence
- 24 minutes of exercise
- Who in your team can raise £24 the fastest?
Relay Step Challenge
Relay For Life is a walking event, although we do have some runners take part. Over the normal Relay weekend, some participants accumulate thousands of steps, some upwards of 30,000 / 40,000 / 50,000 steps have been recorded!
So in this spirit, we are introducing our Relay Step Challenge. For those of you who want to enter, it’s simple! Use your favourite device to record the number of steps you take between 11am on Saturday 25th July, till 11am on Sunday 26th July. Post a picture of your device screen as evidence and use the #plymouthrelaystepchallenge by Midday on the Sunday– the highest 3 will win a prize and winner will get a special award at our Wrap Party.
So who’s up for the challenge? Why not set up a Facebook Fundraiser for Relay, and get your family and friends to sponsor your attempt?! The donations will be added to your fundraising total!
Themed Laps!
One of the aspects of Relay For Life that is loved by many of the teams is the cancer awareness laps, which enables team members to dress up in different costumes related to the theme of that lap. Whilst we are not Relaying together, it would be rather remiss of us not to include this in our weekend of Relay. So we’re asking for your pictures and videos of your fantastic costumes to be posted to social media during the themed hour, using the #below so we can easily find them. Winners of each hour will get a prize donated by our Laps Sponsors (details to be announced nearer the time).

Candle Of Hope Ceremony
It”s that time when we take a moment out of the day to Remember. Remember those we have lost, those who are going through their journey and those who are still with us.
We would like to invite you all to join in with our virtual Candle of Hope ceremony.
Click on this link and then download your candle bag. Using your phone, edit the picture to add in your dedication and save it. Post it to your socials with the #plymouthcandle and we will include it in our ceremony (post by 6pm on 25th July please). You can make a donation to Cancer Research UK, in memory of your loved one, to help them with their work to find a cure here.
We will also be having our usual Memory Wall – please pass your photos to your team captain, who will upload them to us.
The Candle Of Hope ceremony will take place at 9.30pm on Saturday 25th July 2020.
More Relay Activities
Team Banners! We need your team banners please so that we can include them throughout the Relay At Home Live broadcasts.
Design your banner to include your team name, cancer awareness messaging, and maybe why you are Relaying!
Team Captains will upload them to us.
Along with our Purple Army hour, we would also like to feature the Make Something Purple, so we can turn social media purple to celebrate survivorship.
Purple is the colour of Hope, the colour which represents our survivors. We would love you to make anything Purple for this hour. Ideas could include baking a purple cake, paint an old bookcase or dress up the dog in a purple tutu! Whoever can be the most creative will win a prize! Upload a photo to socials using the #plymouthturnspurple
Our usual Relay For Life involves walking for 24 hours, and that means camping overnight beside the track so you can do your stint, how about you bring Relay to your home by camping out in your garden overnight!
Decorate your ‘campsite’ and post your pictures to your socials using the #plymouthrelaycamps
There will be a prize for the best dressed ‘campsite’
