Relay For Life Plymouth Launch
On Saturday, the Relay For Life Committee took over Drake Circus in Plymouth’s city centre to promote World Cancer Day, and celebrate the public launch of this year’s Relay For Life. Relay For Life is a volunteer led event which raises money for Cancer Research UK, with teams of families, friends and colleagues getting together to fight back against cancer. The Relay event is a 24 hour walk where team members take it in turns to walk for the 24 hour event, celebrating the life of survivors, and the hope that it brings that one day, we will see the end to our family and friends dying of cancer.
To mark the launch, the committee put together various aspects of the Relay event, from Fundraising, to Candle of Hope, and Survivorship to cancer awareness. We had a special visit from Foxy from Plymouth Raiders, as well as our own mascot Hope, who we have enlisted for Plymouth.
We spoke to many people about Relay, and have invited more than a dozen survivors to join us as our guests of honour for the Relay Weekend. In addition to this, we managed to raise more than £1700 from the sales of World Cancer Day Unity Bands.
There are still a number of outlets around Plymouth where you can buy your bands, for a list please visit this page.
Thanks to everyone who stopped to talk to us, and who donated money for the Unity Bands, together, people of Plymouth, with your help, we will beat cancer sooner.
