Row the Channel

Our Relay Committee has been lending a hand and supporting two different events in Plymouth today.  Firstly a group of our committee were challenged to row the English Channel, along with three other Charities selected by Drake Circus shopping centre.  St Lukes Hospice, Devon Free Wheelers, Children’s Hospice SW and CRUK have been chosen as the centre’s Charities for the year, and will benefit from a range of fundraising opportunities through the year.

Today, as part of the launch each of the four charities worked together to row the distance between Plymouth and Brittany, across the English Channel, over 200 miles.  Whilst this was going on, other team members were manning the entrances with collection buckets, raising funds which will be split between all four causes.

You’ll remember reading about one of our committee members, Carla’s mission to make Plymouth Go Gold for Children’s Cancer Awareness, well, she took on another massive challenge today, climbing Smeaton’s Tower.  This is a challenge for lots of people, 93 narrow steps, ladders and gang ways, but for Carla who is just getting used to a prosthetic leg, the challenge is immense.

With some trepidation she embarked on the climb at 1130, and after a while reached the top.

A massive well done from us all here at Relay for Life Plymouth!
